What a day for Diamonds Netball Academy! The club was buzzing with success across the board, with our teams delivering fantastic performances both in league action and at the Laurel Park Tournament.
League Matches: Conviction and Class
Our U12s showed just how far they’ve come post-Easter, taking complete control from the first whistle. Despite some early confusion as the opposition lined up with only six players, the girls adapted quickly, using the free WA to dominate attacking play. The set pieces were sharp, with Belle and Lyla feeding Izzy, Pia, and Tilly superbly in the circle.
Diamonds were relentless throughout the match, forcing Netforce into mistakes and never letting up the pressure. A well-deserved 37–19 win reflected their complete control of the game.
Awards:
• Opposition Player: Tilly Raison
• Opposition Defender: Annabel
• Players’ Player: Izzy Parker
• Coach’s Player: Pia
Meanwhile, the U11s’ was another display of Diamonds determination and spirit. Missing Rich on the sidelines (a fact they were quick to point out!), the girls channeled their nerves into a dominant performance. They did the basics brilliantly, building an impressive lead by the third quarter.
In a fun twist, for the final quarter, the players chose their own positions — and despite some ‘non-shooters’ stepping into the circle, they finished the game in style with a 24–3 win!
Awards:
• Opposition Player: Anya (who also showed great sportsmanship, helping the opposition when a player was injured)
• Attacker of the Match: Flo Bedwell
• Defender of the Match: Flo Shortte
• Players’ Player: Eleanor
• Coach’s Player: Mabel
Laurel Park Tournament: U9s and U10s Shine
Over at Laurel Park, our younger Diamonds squads were unstoppable. Both the U9s and U10s finished runners-up in their divisions after brilliant performances throughout the day.
The U9s, playing with just six players all day, showed incredible resilience and team spirit. Meanwhile, the U10s battled their way through a tough draw, including an exhilarating golden goal shootout win against Bees to book their place in the final.
A huge shoutout to:
• Lucy Wells for managing the U10s,
• Rachel Williams for managing and scoring for the U9s,
• and Jen, who coached both league teams despite wearing a boot — an outstanding display of dedication!
