Who says size matters!

An incredible performance from the Diamonds Under 12s last night saw them claim a convincing 30–17 win over Magnet U13s—a Division 1 BJNL. It was one of the most complete team displays we’ve seen, and a huge statement from this talented young group.

From the first whistle, Diamonds were in control, racing to a 14–4 lead across the first two quarters. Even when the newer players took to the court together, the team held strong, matching the older and more experienced opposition in every area of the game.

The shooting circle was a standout, with Flo and Pia forming a strong partnership. Ruby came on in the 3rd quarter and confidently slotted her first six shots—a fantastic effort in only her second appearance—while Pia showed great movement and awareness and improved shooting accuracy at 70%. Flo added to the scoring with some lovely finishes of her own with an accuracy of 70% .

Tilly controlled the game superbly from centre, setting the tempo and providing smart link play. Lyla was relentless at wing attack, showing great aggression and accuracy with her feeds into the circle. Her hard work on centre passes and around the edge of the circle earned her the Coach’s Player award.

Defensively, Aurelia, Megan, and Annabelle were a powerful unit, consistently shutting down Magnet’s attacking efforts. Izzy Johnson was strong at wing defense, breaking up play and transitioning the ball well. Esme also impressed with a calm and confident performance and we saw Alice in her first game learning on the job showing great determination and attitude at C and WD!

Aurelia was deservedly named Girl of the Game by Magnet and also voted Players’ Player by her teammates—highlighting the impact she’s had since joining the squad.

This was a superb all-round team effort against tough, older opposition. The confidence, structure, and commitment on display were outstanding. A proud moment for Diamonds—well done girls!
